HAND COLOURING

Traditionally, hand-colouring photographs was done when colour film either did not exist or was too expensive. The craft was introduced in Europe in the early daguerreotypes of the 1840s and could already be found in Japan and India in the 1860s. Globally, the demand for this type of treatment vanished with the rise of Kodachrome and other colour films that were available from the 1950s onwards.
