PAINTINGS 1956-2011 CATALOGUE RAISONEE VOL.1
Category: Contemporary art monographs
The first catalogue raisonné of one of the most influential “unofficial” artists of the Soviet Union. Erik Bulatov (b. 1933) defied the state regulation of Soviet art to find his own pictorial language, which combines different sign systems (such as the written language and picture or abstraction and illusion). For the first time, the artist’s entire oeuvre is brought together in a two-volume catalogue raisonné, from his education at Moscow’s Surikov Institute to recent works created in his elective hometown of Paris. This first volume, which focuses on painting, is also dedicated to an examination of the different periods in the life and work of this exceptional artist and analyses selected works, as well as presenting detailed provenance information, a bibliography and list of exhibitions.
