Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida, a fundamental artist in contemporary Spanish painting, worked intensely on nature, especially on the motif of gardens. His predilection grew especially by the contact with the gardens of the Royal Alcazar of Seville and the Alhambra of Granada, which he painted on numerous occasions.

With these paintings, Sorolla seems to concentrate his objective in the search of a particular fragment of nature from these open spaces, where the influence of masters such as Monet and Caillebotte fuses with the Italian and Hispano-Arab Renaissance gardening.
