Stephan Bäumelhol (born 1957 in Fritzlar) is now internationally considered the most successful and best-known German sculptor. His material is the wood from which he carves out roughly hewn and colored figures: mainly indifferent-looking men in black trousers and white shirts, with their hands buried in their trouser pockets, also Greek heroes, winged creatures or Michelangelesque slaves.
