Geta Br?tescu was born in 1926 in Ploie?ti, Romania. Despite state repression during the period of the Communist-Stalinist dictatorship under Nicolae Ceau?escu (1965-1989), she developed an oeuvre characterized by an impressive understanding of playful and artistic freedom.
