On June 7, 1926, Antoni Gaudí walked out of the compound of the partially built Sagrada Família for his daily confessions in Barcelonas old city. On the way he was knocked down by a tram. Largely reclusive and dressed like a pauper, the countrys greatest architect was unrecognized and taken to the citys ancient public hospital where he was given a bed among the anonymous poor.
