En aquest llibre hom estudia la figura d'un gran personatge del segle X, Ató, bisbe i arquebisbe de Vic (957-971), un dels homes mol t instruïts en les arts que hi havia llavors a Catalunya, segons la resposta donada pel comte Borrell de Barcelona-Osona a l'abat de Sant Guerau d'Orlhac.
