THE ILLUSTRATION DIVINE COMEDY BY DANTE AND DALÍ

In 1950, to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Dantes birth, the Italian government commissioned Spanish painter Salvador Dalí to produce 100 illustrations for a deluxe edition of The Divine Comedy. Controversy arose over the hiring of a foreigner to illustrate the Italian masterpiece.
